FC Barcelona has dismissed incoming interest from Manchester United in midfielder Fermín López, making clear that the Spaniard remains a central figure under head coach Hansi Flick, Foot Mercato reported. At the same time, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are circling with massive bids, while the Catalan club faces persistent financial pressures that could force it to evaluate major offers despite its preference to retain its young core.

Manchester United Makes Inquiries Without Formal Negotiations

Manchester United has explored the market for midfield reinforcements and gathered information regarding Fermín López’s current situation at Camp Nou, according to reports in the Spanish press. However, according to Goal.com, the Premier League club has not advanced discussions beyond initial inquiries, and no formal negotiations have taken place between the two clubs. Italian journalist Matteo Moretto reported on Radio Marca that United also looked into Atlético Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios as part of their search for profile-matching talent, though neither club has shown any willingness to sell. Cependant, un transfert de l’international espagnol est jugé très improbable.

Sporting director Deco holds an uncompromising stance on the homegrown playmaker. According to Sport.fr, the Barcelona executive intends to reject any proposal from Manchester United regardless of the financial figure attached. The player’s valuation on Transfermarkt stands at €110 million, reflecting his rapid rise through the La Masia academy and his growing influence in Catalonia. L’Espagnol est considéré comme un joueur crucial au FC Barcelone.

Contract Stability and Financial Pressures Shape the Market

Fermín López signed a contract extension earlier in the year that ties him to Barcelona through 2031. Having registered five goals and four assists across all competitions this season, the Spanish international has featured in nearly every match under Hansi Flick. The technical staff views the ongoing competition between Fermín and Dani Olmo for the central attacking midfield role as a tactical advantage rather than a selection dilemma.

Despite the club’s public stance of refusing a sale, external financial pressures continue to surround Camp Nou. CaughtOffside reports that while Barcelona prefers to retain its young core, persistent financial obligations mean the club might eventually be forced to evaluate major bids. The club’s desire to strengthen its defensive line during the winter transfer window could theoretically necessitate a high-profile sale to balance accounts, especially following recent European and domestic defeats.

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea Monitor the Situation

Manchester United is not alone in tracking the midfielder. Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly preparing an offer valued around €80 million, while Chelsea has also maintained interest after failing to secure the player’s signature during previous windows. Andy Brassell, speaking on talkSPORT, highlighted the midfielder’s distinctive traits, comparing his knack for late penalty-box arrivals to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

Barcelona’s internal valuation sits at a minimum of €100 million, placing potential suitors in a position where they must significantly increase their bids if they hope to test the board’s resolve. Pour Chelsea, la concurrence parisienne est un vrai obstacle. Par ailleurs, selon TEAMtalk, Chelsea s’intéresse aussi à Nico Paz, le milieu de Côme. With multiple European giants circling ahead of the winter market, Barcelona’s immediate priority remains preserving a squad capable of competing on all fronts under Hansi Flick.

Unresolved Questions

It remains unknown whether Paris Saint-Germain will officially table its reported €80 million proposal, whether Chelsea will submit a massive counter-offer, or if Barcelona’s financial needs will ultimately force the board to negotiate for the midfielder who has already chosen to commit his future to the club through 2031.
