Arsenal Edge Liverpool 1-0 to Climb to the Summit of the Premier League

Marvelous David

Arsenal yesterday secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield to claim all three points and ascend the summit of the English Premier League.

Kai Havertz’s 16th minute winner was all the Gunners needed to leapfrog Manchester City to the top of the Premier League log on 24 points. Havertz found the back of the net after meeting Declan Rice’s low delivery into the penalty area.

The Gunners delivered a disciplined performance against Liverpool, whose attempts to find an equaliser were unsuccessful as Arsenal held on to their narrow advantage until the final whistle.

Arsenal capitalised on a Liverpool mistake while building from the back to take the lead.

Liverpool responded with increased attacking pressure and came close to drawing level when Florian Wirtz’s free-kick struck the crossbar.

Alexis Mac Allister also missed an opportunity with a header that went over the goal.

After the break, Liverpool continued searching for an equaliser, but Arsenal maintained their defensive organisation. Goalkeeper David Raya and the Gunners’ backline stood firm, while Alisson Becker produced an important save to deny Christos Tzolis from extending Arsenal’s advantage.

Despite enjoying more possession and registering more shots, Liverpool could not find a breakthrough as Arsenal secured an important away victory.

The result ended Liverpool’s five-match winning run and strengthened Arsenal’s position in the Premier League title race.
