Nine Teams, Eleven Sundays, One New Era: CFFL Uprise Season 4 Kicks Off 1st November

LAGOS: The wait is almost over. CFFL will open CFFL Uprise Season 4 on Sunday, 1st November 2026, at Lagos, launching nine teams into eleven weeks of Sunday competition.

The season arrives with new energy on and off the field. The Uprise, founded personally by two-times Superbowl Champion, Osi Umenyiora, joins CFFL as season partner. Together, they mark a step change for a league that has grown from a Lagos grassroots idea into a recognised name in African flag football.

“Kickoff is the day every team in this league works towards, and Season 4 is our biggest one yet. We have more teams on the field, a better home for them, and more ways for fans to follow every snap. This league belongs to our teams and our community, and on Sunday we get to show Lagos what we’ve built together” – Aseobong Larry Etah, VP, Legal and Competition Readiness, CFFL.

A season built around the fans

CFFL has designed Season 4 so that there is something to follow every day of the week. Matches will be recorded, edited and released on YouTube and TikTok, with highlight clips published daily. Each week the league will also spotlight standout talent through its Player of the Week, Play of the Week and Team of the Week features, publish a Sunday recap on the new CFFL website, and confirm the coming weekend’s fixtures every Thursday.

Season 4 also introduces a dedicated stats page for players and teams, a new CFFL website and a new YouTube channel, giving fans, families and the media a single place to follow the league from week one to the final whistle.

Why this season matters

Flag football is low-contact, inclusive and Olympic-recognised, with its debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. CFFL has already engaged over 500 young athletes and seen its players contribute to Nigeria’s strong showing at the 2025 IFAF African Flag Football Championship. Season 4 builds on that foundation, with a focus on player development, new opportunities in coaching, refereeing and content creation, and stronger ties with schools and communities.

“I’ve been waiting all off-season for this. The standard keeps going up, and I want to show what our team can do in front of our fans” – Fortune Meremoth, Spartans Defensive Captain/ Player.

“Every new season is an opportunity to raise expectations and set a higher standard. That’s what we want to see from CFFL Season 4, greater competition, greater visibility and more opportunities for the athletes who are shaping the future of this sport. The talent is here. Our responsibility is to ensure the opportunities match its potential.” — Osi Umenyiora, Two-times Super Bowl Champion and Founder of The Uprise.

Fixtures, team announcements and match content will be released on CFFL’s channels in the lead-up to kickoff. Follow @cfflnigeria and @cfflafrica_ and visit www.cffl.africa for updates.
