South Africa’s historic 2-1 series triumph over Australia has been hit with a late disciplinary postscript after batting consultant Ashwell Prince and reserve wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne were sanctioned by the International Cricket Council following an unsavoury boundary-rope flare-up at Newlands.
The fallout stems from a chaotic DRS dispute during the Proteas' second innings on Day 3 of third and final Test against Australia.
Following his dismissal, opening batsman Marques Ackerman attempted to challenge a caught decision, only for on-field officials Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough to reject the request after the 15-second timer elapsed.
The call triggered an immediate reaction near the dugout.
Prince remonstrated with the match officials over the timing of the signal, while non-playing substitute Verreynne instructed Ackerman to stay within the ropes, delaying his departure from the field.
DISCIPLINED Proteas wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne received a demerit point for delaying the departure of batsman Marques Ackerman at Newlands.

The sport's governing body moved swiftly, citing both men for a Level 1 breach under Article 2.8 relating to dissent against an umpire's decision.
Match referee Javagal Srinath handed each an official reprimand alongside one demerit point.
Both Prince and Verreynne admitted the charge, making a full hearing unnecessary.
The touchline drama did little to disrupt South Africa between the wickets.
The hosts mounted a fierce fourth-day fightback before rolling Australia over cheaply on the final day to clinch a memorable series win, leapfrogging their opponents to claim top spot in the ICC Test rankings.
