Andrew Balding’s four-year-old had been the dominant force against her own sex in Europe this term but after four straight Group One victories, failed to live up to top billing stepping up in distance.
Willie McCreary’s Jancis was the pick of the European runners in third, but the spoils went the way of Chad Brown’s leading American contender, who had denied Stuart Williams’ Sunlit Uplands at Belmont last time out.
Ridden confidently by Jose Ortiz, Kathynmarissa flew home strongly to nip past Graham Motion’s E. P. Taylor Stakes winner Gimme A Nother at the finish.
Balding said of the Juddmonte-owned Blue Bolt: “It’s the end of a long season and she has done us proud.
“She got a bit upset in the gate which is unlike her, but you never know until you try it when bringing a horse here.
“It would be great to have her for another year, but that’s down to the owners to decide.”
