Watch Kai Rooney score first of four goals inside 45 minutes for Manchester United

Kai Rooney can become a Man United professional in November

Kai Rooney scored four times inside 45 minutes as Manchester United won 6-0 at Burnley in the Under-18 Premier League on Tuesday.

Right-winger Rooney – son of United all-time top scorer Wayne – emulated his iconic father by sliding towards a corner flag on his knees, having fired in the 22nd-minute opener after Jaume Camacho headed against the woodwork at the Clarets’ training base.

United shared footage of the strike on social media and swiftly had more to celebrate when Rooney converted a second-half penalty, headed in for his hat-trick and produced a finish for his fourth to reach five goals in three appearances this season.

Camacho and Noah Ajayi added late goals as the youth side took one afternoon to score as many as the club’s struggling senior side have in their last eight matches in all competitions.

Kai Rooney age: How old is Wayne Rooney’s eldest son?

Rooney turns 17 on Monday and has been at United since he was 11. His father joined the club for an initial £20 million from Everton in 2004.

Kai Rooney Manchester United scholarship

Beleaguered Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick’s son, Jacey, joined Rooney among the eight United youngsters to sign scholarship terms in June.

Prodigy Rooney played six times in the Under-18 Premier League last season and made his FA Youth Cup debut.

Under-18 coach and former Red Devils player Darren Fletcher briefly served as United interim head coach before Carrick succeeded him in January.

What has Wayne Rooney said about Kai Rooney?

Rooney, who netted a record 253 times for the club before leaving in 2017, has said he is “really proud” of his son’s successful attempt to win a scholarship.

Of his three younger brothers, 13-year-old Klay Rooney is in United’s academy and Kit, 10, and Cass, 8, are said to be promising footballers.

“We’ve got this with Kai having signed for Manchester United,” Rooney senior replied when he was asked by the Guardian about the prospect of “hangers-on” wanting to know his offspring because of their success.

“We know who his friends are. He’s joined United and if there’s suddenly a group of people starting to get close to him, you’ll see that. I’m not saying you can’t make new friends.”

Former Manchester United, Everton and England striker Wayne Rooney will remain a pundit on Match of the Day for 26-27.
