São Paulo Eliminated from Women’s Copa do Brasil After Defeat to Bahia
São Paulo

São Paulo exited the Women’s Copa do Brasil on Wednesday after a 1–0 defeat to Bahia at Estádio Brinco de Ouro da Princesa in Campinas, concluding the quarterfinal tie with a 3–1 aggregate loss.

The second leg brought high-tempo attacks from the opening whistle, but missed chances in the first half ultimately left the team with too much ground to recover after a 2–1 loss in the opening fixture.

Early Misses Prove Costly at Brinco de Ouro da Princesa

The quarterfinal clash began on level terms as both sides pushed forward in search of an early breakthrough. In the 19th minute, São Paulo carved out a clear path to goal when Kesia Sena collected a pass inside her own half and drove toward the opponent’s penalty area. Wearing the number 18 shirt, she faced only goalkeeper Yanne in a one-on-one duel but directed her shot wide of the frame.

Minutes later, in the 27th minute, Mylena found possession inside the box. She rounded Yanne and sent a low shot toward the net, only for a retreating Bahia defender to clear the ball off the line. The missed opportunities kept the scoreboard blank through the end of the first half.

Cássia Breaks the Deadlock for Bahia

The decisive breakthrough arrived six minutes after the interval. Cássia capitalized on an opening in the 51st minute, scoring past the São Paulo defense to put Bahia ahead on the night and extend their aggregate advantage.

Trailing by two goals on aggregate, São Paulo pushed numbers forward to chase an equalizer throughout the remainder of the second half. Coach Guilherme Vieira turned to the bench, introducing Aline, Vi Amaral, and Crivelari in the 10th minute of the half, followed by Clara in the 20th minute and Camilinha in the 29th minute. Despite the attacking changes, Bahia held firm to preserve the clean sheet and secure the 1–0 victory on the day.

Squad Lineups and Match Cautions

São Paulo started the match with Carlinha in goal; a backline and midfield featuring Serrana, Rafa Soares, Tayla, Carol Gil, Bia Menezes, Robinha, Karla Alves, Mylena, and Isa; alongside Kesia Sena in attack. Yellow cards were issued to Robinha in the 54th minute and Crivelari in the 84th minute.

Upcoming Fixture in the State Championship

With the Copa do Brasil campaign concluded, Tricolor turns its attention back to regional competition. São Paulo’s next fixture is scheduled for November 17 at 7 p.m., when the team travels to face Santos away in the Women’s São Paulo State Championship, saopaulofc.net reported.
