Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff’s son in hospital after terrifying karting accident

Footage of Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff’s son Jack being involved in a scary karting accident emerged last night, with a new report now saying the young racer ended up in hospital.

According to Italy’s Gazzetta, Jack Wolff required checks after becoming involved in an incident while battling for the win a junior race.

Initial reports suggested Wolff at first walked away, but it now appears he required further medical attention following the clash.

Mercedes F1 boss’s son has hospital visit after karting crash

Jack Wolff, son of Mercedes F1 team principal Toto, is racing at one of the biggest events of his young career this weekend.

The younger karter was entered in the IAME Warrior Final competition held at Leopard Circuit Viterbo in Italy, driving in the X30 Mini class.

Heading into the final lap of the race, Wolff and one of his rivals, Nahyl Elgahoudi, had put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack, fighting it out for the win.

The two then made contact, with a kart behind, driven by young Brit Dimitar Uzunov, collecting Wolff and going over his kart, hitting the latter’s shoulder.

Wolff was able to exit his car under his own steam, but the Gazzetta now reports further medical examination was required.

“The driver, who was uninjured, was immediately taken to the hospital for checks,” it says.

The incident occurred while both Wolff’s parents are on business in the US.

Toto is overseeing his Mercedes team in F1, with his driver Kimi Antonelli competing for a chance to become the youngest champion in grand prix history this weekend.

Meanwhile, Jack’s mother Susie is CEO of the all-female junior series F1 Academy, which is also on the bill at the Circuit of the Americas.

"It's important to find the right balance because obviously as a parent you're emotionally involved and it's completely normal," Wolff said earlier this year of his son’s karting.

"But he's nine years old, there are so many small kids and you need to strike the balance right, and we try. Sometimes we get it wrong.

"You have difficult moments and he had some difficult moments today and in the end it comes all together, and every little failure is a learning for the future," he added.
