Real Madrid manager José Mourinho addressed the media ahead of his side’s La Liga fixture against Racing Santander at El Sardinero, MARCA reported, returning to a stadium the club has not visited since 2011 following Racing’s promotion back to the top flight. The reigning European giants travel north buoyed by both the standings and the emotional resonance of their recent victory in the Clásico against Barcelona.

Building Momentum After the Clásico Triumph

The visiting side arrives in Santander carrying the psychological lift of a defining win at Camp Nou. That performance validated an upward trajectory that had been quietly building over previous weeks. Mourinho’s squad enters the fixture with several players performing at peak form, boasting a heightened level of confidence following one of their most significant results of the current campaign. However, the Portuguese coach used his pre-match press conference to caution against complacency, noting that the match presents hidden obstacles that league tables and roster comparisons fail to reveal.

Navigating the Atmosphere at El Sardinero

A fifteen-year absence from Santander sets the stage for a hostile, charged environment as local supporters view the visit as a historic occasion. Racing Santander enters the fixture determined to challenge the capital club, feeding off the unique energy generated by hosting a heavyweight opponent. Mourinho stressed the vital importance of maintaining strict competitive tension and concentration, warning his players that local ambition often multiplies the difficulty of matches that appear straightforward on paper.

Squad Condition and Tactical Approach

The press conference also provided an update on squad readiness as Real Madrid looks to sustain the tactical discipline and intensity that overwhelmed Barcelona. Club officials and coaching staff have emphasized the need to channel the strong feelings from the Clásico into immediate domestic focus rather than letting the euphoria translate into relaxation. Mourinho’s tactical preparation centers on controlling the early tempo in an arena where partisan crowds historically push visiting sides to their limits.

Match Context and Historical Timeline

The fixture marks Real Madrid’s first trip to El Sardinero since 2011, a long gap caused by Racing Santander’s prolonged absence from La Liga. While Real Madrid commands superior squad depth and historical dominance, the unique context of a stadium relishing top-flight football after a decade and a half introduces unpredictable variables.
