Liverpool lineup vs Fenerbahce predicted as Rio Ngumoha decision made amid 3 changes

Liverpool is back in Champions League action as it takes on Fenerbahce in Istanbul, with Andoni Iraola facing some big calls with his side amid a hectic schedule

Rio Ngumoha will be aiming to start for Liverpool against Fenerbahce

After the frustration of Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal, Liverpool will be looking to bounce back immediately as it turns its attention back to matters in the Champions League later.

The Reds have made their way to Istanbul to take on Fenerbahce, and a familiar face with Dirk Kuyt in temporary charge of the hosts. As every fan will know, a trip to Turkiye always represents a daunting challenge, with Liverpool having lost on both occasions at Galatasaray last season.

Having already won their first three games though, Andoni Iraola has the chance to effectively secure a spot in the knockout stages of the competition with a win today, with 12 points likely to be enough for at least a place in the play-offs.

That may well influence his thinking with his team, having opted to make changes in previous Champions League games this season, although a hectic schedule will also have to come into play as we approach the next international break.

The Reds have already picked up a new injury in Ryan Gravenberch, and Iraola won’t want to lose any more of his players, so it could be time to give one or two players a rest.

With that in mind, Jeremy Jacquet could be one of those to make way today. The 21-year-old’s fitness is paramount, and having given supporters a bit of a scare ahead of the Arsenal game, it feels like this might be the right time for him to put his feet up - for a little while at least.

Joe Gomez of Liverpool runs out ahead of the Carabao Cup fourth round match against Chelsea at Anfield on October 28 2026
Joe Gomez could come into the side against Fenerbahce

Joe Gomez played well against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup last week, and the center-back pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Ronald Araujo worked effectively, so we’ll go with that make-up again. At left-back, it’s a bit of a toss-up between Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas - we’ll go with the former in order to give the back four a stronger look.

Alisson Becker starts as normal in goal, although he needs to improve on his distribution after his mistake led to Arsenal’s winner at the weekend - and it’s not the first time the Brazilian has played his side into trouble this season.

With Gravenberch out, it becomes a question of who partners Alexis Mac Allister in midfield - Trey Nyoni or the returning Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

Nyoni grew into the game on Sunday, and you can certainly make the argument that Liverpool didn’t look to be in as much control once Szoboszlai replaced him. At just 19 though, he does need to have his minutes carefully managed, so as long as Szoboszlai is fit enough, we’ll start with him.

While one youngster comes out of the side, it feels like another should be brought in. Rio Ngumoha should be given a start - there’s no doubt he deserves it, and he can count himself unlucky not to have started in recent Premier League games.

Given today’s hosts do have some injury problems in defense, pace might be the way to go, so we’ll stick with Bradley Barcola and give Cody Gakpo a rest. Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak keep their usual spots - we could certainly do with an improved display from the former.

Liverpool predicted line-up vs Fenerbahce: Alisson; Gomez, Araujo, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Barcola; Isak.
