Piero Hincapie hits back at Virgil van Dijk with 'I don't forget' post after Arsenal beat Liverpool
Piero Hincapie hits back at Virgil van Dijk with 'I don't forget' post after Arsenal beat Liverpool

Piero Hincapie appeared to aim a subtle dig at Virgil van Dijk by posting a zoomed-in image of the Premier League badge following Sunday's game between Liverpool and Arsenal.

Arsenal went three points clear at the top of the Premier League after a first-half strike from Kai Havertz earned Mikel Arteta's side their first win at Anfield since 2014.

It was a frustrating event for the home side. They were left outraged after referee Andy Madley and VAR waved away two penalty shouts, with the most controversial being Jurrien Timber's shirt grab on Alexander Isak.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his frustration in his post-match interview. Asked about the shirt pull on Isak, Van Dijk said: "I think it was also a clear penalty. I've seen it back."

He added: "There are 50 cameras, even more. Why does he have to complain if there are so many cameras? In the end it wasn't given and we lose the game. So well done to Arsenal."

Virgil van Dijk's evening goes from bad to worse

After the full-time whistle, an old social media post from Van Dijk was seemingly referenced by Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie.

Hincapie, who replaced Christos Tzolis in the final stages at Anfield, posted a series of images on his Instagram page with the caption: "I don't forget", but one image in particular caught the eye.

The Ecuadorian defender posted a zoomed-in image of the golden Premier League badge worn on the shirt sleeves of the defending champions.

For context, Van Dijk posted a similar picture after Liverpool’s 0-0 draw at the Emirates in January.

Van Dijk's frustration about Isak being pulled back by Timber was echoed by Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola, who made his feelings clear in his post-match press conference.

"There is a clear grab [of] the shirt," he said.

"Alex [Isak] was just in front of him, he was going to head in front of the goal but couldn't because he had the shirt. I don't understand why they didn't call it, probably because he has not gone to the floor.

"I think the Gakpo one was not a penalty but the Alex one he was going to head the ball in front of the goalkeeper.

"He grabbed the shirt. I don't understand why it wasn't called. You have to dive, if you don't dive they won't call it. That's the problem we have with the game. Because he doesn't dive and go to the floor.

"The fact that you are even asking me if he should go to the floor, if he goes to the floor, they call the penalty 100 percent."
