Nigeria’s U-15 team, the Future Eagles, have secured their first win at the 2026 FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, following a 2-1 comeback victory against Cyprus on Monday.
The Future Eagles, who arrived in Baku on Thursday, had failed to earn a win in their first three matches, recording draws against South Sudan, Jordan, and The Gambia.
In their first match at the festival, they played out a 3-3 draw against South Sudan before their second match against Jordan ended in a 2-2 draw. They also recorded a 3-3 draw against The Gambia.
However, the Future Eagles ended their winless run after coming from behind to secure their first victory in the competition against Cyprus.
Georgios Christodoulou gave Cyprus the lead in the 12th minute, but Wisdom Oche equalised for Nigeria in the 17th minute, while Timothy Ijach scored the winning goal in the 26th minute for the Nigeria side.
The Future Eagles will face Pakistan later on Monday as they look to build on their first victory at the competition.
