Chrispin Sankale wins the 2026 Gertrude’s Hospital Charity Golf Tournament

Playing off a handicap of 19, Chrispin Sankale carded a remarkable 43 points to emerge as the overall winner of the 34th Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation Annual Charity Golf Tournament, hosted at the par-71 Muthaiga Golf Club.

The day-long tournament brought together golfers, corporate sponsors, and philanthropists for spirited competition aimed at driving resources toward specialized pediatric care. Proceeds from this year’s edition directly support the Foundation’s Childhood Cancer Programme, an initiative established to provide underprivileged families with timely diagnosis, oncology treatment, and specialized medical interventions.

Speaking after receiving his trophy, Sankale highlighted both the competitive nature of the field and the significance of the day’s cause: “I am delighted to emerge as the overall winner. It was a tough competition with many strong players, but I thank God for the victory. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this wonderful tournament and commend the organisers and partners who came together to support such an important cause. It is especially rewarding to know that our participation contributes towards improving healthcare for children.”

The contest across the divisions remained tight throughout the afternoon:

  • Men’s Division: Eliud Nyoke claimed top honours with a solid return of 41 points. Arthur Kamanja secured the runner-up spot on 40 points, edging Reuben Orwaru, who took third place on the same score after countback.
  • Ladies’ Division: Joyce Mukua led the pack to take the winner’s title with 39 points. Mary Ndegwa carded 36 points to finish second, holding off third-placed Evah Kimani on countback.
  • Gross & Sponsor Titles: Pritesh McShah claimed the Gross Winner title after posting an impressive round of 78, while Neel Shah clinched the Sponsor Winner category.
  • Ancillary Prizes: Silas Gitari and Valine Akoth took home the Men’s and Ladies’ Longest Drive accolades, respectively. In the Nearest to the Pin contest, Eric Kimathi Mutuma and Beth Njoroge claimed the men’s and ladies’ prizes.

The charity fixture coincided with a weekend of golf activity across the capital. At the Karen Country Club, golfers converged to honour outgoing Lady Captain Rebecca Juma during the Lady Captain’s Prize tournament.

Nyambura Karuthiru delivered a commanding performance to clinch the overall title with 41 points. The battle for podium positions proved fierce, with Dorothy Mageto taking the runner-up spot on 40 points after a countback against third-placed Samira Kimari, who also returned 40 points.

Telecommunications firm Safaricom extended its corporate backing across both weekend events.
