Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell will remain in hospital overnight as he continues to receive treatment for a serious injury suffered against the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell was left face down on the turf and motionless after attempting a tackle on Vikings tight end TJ Hockenson in the fourth quarter of the game.
Medics rushed to his aid and he was evaluated by doctors on the field, before being loaded onto a backboard and carted off to a waiting ambulance in a neck brace.
He was joined in the ambulance by his wife Megan and four-month-old baby boy Cooper for the journey to the hospital, where he was immediately evaluated for a neck injury.
The team reported that he was 'breathing and alert' when he left the stadium, and shortly after 7pm EST it was confirmed that he will remain in hospital overnight. No further update was given on his physical condition.
In a post on X, the team revealed: 'Jack Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital tonight, for continued evaluation and monitoring. The team will provide further updates as we have them.'

After the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell - no relation - was unable to give any further information on his star linebacker, simply telling the media: 'We're thinking about him.'
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Lions for further information on Campbell's condition.
When the scary incident occurred, Detroit's entire team and most of the coaching staff surrounded the cart before it transported Campbell off the field.
The former Iowa star was drafted by the Lions with the No. 18 overall pick in 2023.
Last season, Campbell was an All-Pro selection after becoming the first NFL player in seven years to have 150-plus tackles and at least five sacks and three forced fumbles.
The Lions signed Campbell last May to a four-year, $81 million contract extension that runs through the 2030 season.
His injury comes in the middle of a huge year on and off the field, with he and his wife Megan having welcomed their first child to the world, a boy called Cooper, back in February.
Campbell met Megan when they were both athletes at the University of Iowa, with his now-wife a member of the basketball team while he played football.
At college, he was Big Ten Player of the Year and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year with the Hawkeyes, while Megan eventually transferred to Drake to finish her collegiate career.
The pair stayed together despite the distance, and Campbell went on to propose in July 2023. They then got married under a year later, on June 6, 2024.
Of their wedding day, Megan posted on Instagram: 'The best day of our lives surrounded by our family and friends. This day was filled with so much laughter and love. Our hearts are filled with gratitude! Here’s to a lifetime with my best friend!!!!'
On Sunday, Campbell's was one of three key injuries suffered by Lions defenders in the game against the Vikings, with pass rusher DJ Wonnum and safety Brian Branch both going out with concussions.
Detroit did manage to go on and get the win though, eventually running out 19-14 victors against Minnesota, who suffered their first loss of the season.
