Man Utd player ratings vs Chelsea: Martinez and 3/10 trio let team down in disastrous loss

CHELSEA 2-0 MAN UTD: It was yet another terrible day at the office for the Red Devils.

Chelsea scored two second-half goals as they capitalised on a Manchester United collapse to pile even more pressure on Michael Carrick, who is edging closer and closer to the sack. A thrilling first half somehow ended scoreless, with both teams seeing goals disallowed for offsides, before the Blues turned the screw to condemn United to their ninth game without victory in all competitions. The visitors could quite easily have gone in at half-time with a two-goal lead after Bruno Fernandes and Amad both missed the target when they should have scored.

United were made to pay for their wastefulness when Morgan Rogers opened the scoring not long after the restart, slicing through like a knife through butter before dinking the ball into the net.

It was an alarmingly easy goal for the Red Devils to concede, especially after playing well in the opening 45 minutes despite not scoring.

They gifted Chelsea a second goal when Lisandro Martinez smashed a mindless elbow into Wesley Fofana, earning his second yellow card in the space of two minutes and giving the Blues a penalty.

Cole Palmer stepped up and fired the spot-kick into the bottom corner, leaving no way back for United on another day to forget.

Chelsea could have had a third with just under 20 minutes remaining, but Estevao was ruled offside for the second time in the match after smashing high into the net.

The result leaves United just one point above the Premier League relegation zone heading into the rest of the weekend's fixtures, having won just one game all season.

Man Utd player ratings vs Chelsea

Senne Lammens - 5

Wasn't to blame for the Rogers goal, with his defenders letting him down. Almost saved the penalty but was beaten by sheer power. Made a couple of saves towards the end to stop United falling even further behind.

Leny Yoro - 5

Played better than he managed against Bournemouth last weekend, but not by much. Finished the game as United's best defender, which wasn't exactly difficult given how bad they were in the second half.

Harry Maguire - 3

Stood still and watched as Rogers waltzed through United's back line to score. Was then guilty of playing Estevao onside for Chelsea's third. Not good enough.

Lisandro Martinez - 2

Utterly dreadful. Couldn't get close enough to Rogers for the opening goal and launched a brainless elbow at Wesley Fofana to concede the penalty and get himself sent off. Two yellow cards in the space of two minutes. Let his team and manager down.

Diogo Dalot - 5

Played reasonably well in the first half, delivering several dangerous crosses, but tailed off as Chelsea turned the screw after the interval.

Andrey Santos - 4

Started well but was one of several players to blame for the Rogers goal, tackling the grass rather than his man as the Chelsea forward strolled through.

Carlos Baleba - 5

Strong in the engine room apart from the opening goal, when he dived in to try and win the ball but ended up opening a huge space for Rogers to exploit.

Amad - 4

Ran rings around Wesley Fofana and repeatedly found space in the final third, but was horribly wasteful in front of goal. Should've scored at least twice in the first half alone and United ended up paying the price.

Didn't play well on his return to the starting line-up as captain. Blazed a huge chance over the crossbar early on when it would've been easier to hit the target. Went into his shell after Chelsea pulled ahead in the second half.

Bryan Mbeumo - 5

Played a brilliant through ball to Fernandes to set up United's best chance of the opening 45 minutes. Posed a threat in the final third, but couldn't make any of his opportunities count.

Matheus Cunha - 5

Had a close-range goal disallowed in the first half for a marginal offside. Asked questions of Chelsea's defenders but couldn't get himself on the scoresheet in the end.

Substitutes

Kobbie Mainoo - 5

Introduced just before the hour mark, replacing Baleba. Couldn't stem the tide as United shipped another goal from the penalty spot.

Mason Mount - 3

Loudly booed as he entered the pitch to replace Cunha in the 65th minute. As usual, did next to nothing. A waste of a squad space.

Ayden Heaven - 5

Introduced out of necessity after Martinez was sent off to restore United to a back four. To his credit, they didn't concede when he was on the pitch.

Joshua Zirkzee - 5

Got a run out in the closing stages with United chasing the game. Didn't do much worth mentioning apart from getting booked.
