Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Anichebe, is reportedly leading a group of wealthy African investors in advanced negotiations to acquire English League One club Bromley.
According to talkSPORT on Wednesday, the 38-year-old Nigerian is in discussions with Bromley’s owner, Robin Stanton-Gleaves, over a possible takeover of the South London club.
The negotiations are said to be progressing, with both parties working towards reaching an agreement that could see Anichebe and his investment partners assume control of the club.
The proposed acquisition comes at a challenging period for Bromley, which is struggling in its first season in League One following successive promotions from the National League in 2024 and League Two last season.
The club’s recent run of results has reportedly raised concerns about its ability to retain its League One status, increasing the need for fresh investment and a new direction.
Anichebe eyes football ownership
Anichebe’s proposed takeover could provide additional financial backing for Bromley as the club seeks to strengthen its position and consolidate its place in the English third tier.
The former Everton forward has developed an interest in business and sports investment since retiring from professional football in 2018.
He is the founder and owner of Lumira Group, an investment company with interests in sports, education, healthcare and infrastructure in the United Kingdom.
Anichebe was also recently linked to a proposed £20m leisure development project in Liverpool.
His reported interest in Bromley follows an earlier attempt to acquire non-league club Gateshead last year, although the proposed deal did not materialise.
Former Super Eagles striker’s career
During his professional career, Anichebe featured in the English Premier League, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists.
At international level, he made 11 appearances for Nigeria’s senior national team, scoring once.
His only goal for the Super Eagles came in a 3-0 friendly victory over Kenya in 2011.
He was also part of Nigeria’s Under-23 team that won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, scoring against Japan during the tournament.
If completed, the Bromley acquisition would represent a major step in Anichebe’s transition from professional football to club ownership and sports investment.
